Powerhouse Has a Much Needed Check Up

The Jersey City Redevelopment Agency announced that the much anticipated inspection of the Powerhouse smokestacks was started today by Vertical Access, a group that specializes in engineering studies for areas that are difficult to access. Read More>>

“Today was a milestone for both the Powerhouse and all those concerned about this magnificent structure” noted Bob Antonicello, Executive Director of the Redevelopment Agency. Because of the deteriorated condition of the roof, the smokestacks have been off limits and impossible to reach via the roof. Early this year, the Agency, together with its construction manager, Helena Ruman and the architectural firm, Beyer, Blinder, Belle, who designed the stabilization of the Powerhouse, agreed that the only course of action was to contract with a firm who has experience in accessing hard to reach spaces.

As the Agency’s contractor Gramercy Group, Inc. undertook the removal of the smokestacks on the roof of the Jersey City Powerhouse it became evident that a more serious situation existed.
