The Powerhouse is envisioned to be an iconic mixed-use centerpiece for arts, retail and entertainment in downtown Jersey City with shops, galleries, restaurants, markets and alternative office space.
After years of deterioration, the Powerhouse will be going through a multi-year stabilization program to support and secure the exterior and interior infrastructure of the building.
The area surrounding the Powerhouse will serve the arts community and all residents of Jersey City with the creation of performance space, green space and pedestrian-friendly attractions for residents.
As the Agency’s contractor Gramercy Group, Inc. undertook the removal of the smokestacks on the roof of the Jersey City Powerhouse it became evident that a more serious situation existed.
